Grenada has become the first Caribbean island to welcome back yacht arrivals, the country’s government confirmed last week.

The first yacht arrivals returned to Grenada since the island closed its seaports to recreational boats in late March. Grenada is now facilitating yacht arrivals under strict health and safety protocols.

Officials from Grenada’s Ministry of Health are present to perform screenings of yachters, including temperature testing for yacht passengers. Once screenings and temperature testing are completed, yacht passengers must arrive at a designated dock at Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina.

The designated entities, the Marine & Yachting Association of Grenada (MAYAG) in Grenada, and the Carriacou Marine Tyrell Bay Marina in Carriacou, as well as the Immigration Department and the Royal Grenada Police Force, are responsible for collecting and sharing all yacht arrival pre-registration information.

Following the receipt of the information, yachts are then provided with authorised entry dates from the Grenada Immigration Department.

Yachts seeking to arrive in the Caribbean island of Grenada must pre-register into the destination’s GRENADA LIMA database before being given pre-clearance. After this, the yachts and the crew are placed on two designated locations to undergo a 14-day quarantine under strict health and safety protocols.

At the end of the quarantine period, the crew will be given formal immigration clearance, after receiving a negative COVID-19 test and health clearance.

The Government of Grenada prepared provisioning protocols for the quarantine sites of Port Louis Marina and Carriacou Marine, for yachts needing water supply, essential supplies and fuel during the quarantine period.

According to the minister, “The Cabinet and National Covid-19 Response Team are satisfied that the implemented health and safety protocols will allow yachts a safe-haven in Grenada for the hurricane season, while ensuring the safety of all citizens, and contributing to the rebound of our economy.”
